EMGS lists the documents a new student pass application needs.
- A passport-size photograph with a white background, 35 mm × 45 mm.
- A copy of your passport: the bio-data page, every page with a visa on it and the observation page. The passport must be valid for 18 months or more.
- Your offer letter from the institution.
- The EMGS health declaration form, completed and scanned.
- Your academic records: copies of every certificate and transcript of the studies you have completed.
- An English language certificate from one of the tests EMGS accepts, such as MUET, IELTS, TOEFL iBT, PTE Academic or a Cambridge English qualification. EMGS warns that leaving it out can delay the application.
- A personal bond. The Immigration Department requires your institution to sign a personal bond on your behalf, so the institution asks you to lodge the bond amount. It is returned when you complete or withdraw from your studies, provided you have not broken Malaysia's immigration laws.
Students from some countries need more: a No-Objection Certificate for students from Sudan and a Letter of Eligibility for students from Iran, both applied for by the institution. If you are coming from a country at high risk of yellow fever, you need the vaccination before you travel and must show your vaccination booklet or card to clear Immigration on arrival. Check the EMGS guidelines for the current list before you apply.
