Overview
Universiti Sains Malaysia was established in 1969 as the country's second university, first under the name Universiti Pulau Pinang, and moved to its present site at Minden, Penang in 1971. It teaches about 30,000 students across academic schools on its main campus on Penang island, an Engineering Campus in Nibong Tebal and a Health Campus in Kubang Kerian, Kelantan. It was recognised as a Research Intensive University by the Ministry of Higher Education in 2007 and uses a School system rather than faculties.
